Loggerhead Sea Turtle

The loggerhead sea turtle (or Caretta caretta as scientists call it) inhabits all tropical and subtropical oceans and has the largest population of all marine turtles. Yet it too has become an endangered species.

My schedule at the time didn't allow for much rendering, so I tried to make the best out of the few hi-res images i could finish and created a series of infographics on the loggerhead sea turte. I spent most of my time on the model and textures, sculpting every scale and scute by hand. Although not the most time-efficient process, I learned alot doing it. The basemesh itself is fit for animation, but as I originally intended it to be a modeling exercise only, I never rigged or animated it.
A short turntable to showcase the loggerhead in all its threedimensional glory...
Created as a proof-of-concept for my teachers. I wanted to demonstrate how far ZBrush's rendering capabilities alone could take me. The background-plate is from an online-library, the turtle was rendered in ZBrush and composited in Photoshop.
